I left this blog for quite some time it seems. Rocco is now almost 2 years and 5 months old. He is about 53-54 kg and although he looks like an adult dog, he still wants to play and run around a lot. There is nothing new around him, besides the fact that he is getting more mature, but we have a new member of our family…
My son, Samuil, is now over 6 months old. Soon he will start playing with Rocco. For now they are only aware of each other’s existence. We’ll see how that goes in the upcoming months.

There has been some delivery issues with Rocco’s food so I decided to change to a new one. The transition has been completed and the new food is Royal Canin Giant Adult. It’s kibble is quite bigger. The average weight of a single kibble is about 7 grams and Rocco has to chew it while he eats.
The Royal Canin Giant Adult has a nice smell, at least for Rocco, and he loves it. I still feed him with some additional food to sustain the weight growth and first he eats the big kibbles and then starts with the additions. I bought two 36 pound bags so we should be OK for at least a couple of months.
On a side note we went to the vet the other day for the monthly anti mites and fleas treatment and the traditional monthly weight check and he is now about 120 pounds. If this rate continues next month I will stop his additional food.

We mainly play goalkeeper game with it. In this game Rocco has to keep the ball from going around him in the coridor. As the rubber ball bounces in an unpredictable direction every time, it is not an easy task. Most of the time he ends up chasing it around until it stops.

This is one of the few toys that is still in one piece. Unfortunately his Atomic treat ball did not have such a good faith. Half of it ended up being eaten and pooped by this little big monster called Rocco and the other half I had to throw away. Lesson learned: Vinyl toys that have wholes in them are not good for big chewing loving rottweilers.

Thanks to the good food Rocco the rottweiler is till growing. We went to the vet for his scheduled pills and drops and of cource checked his weight. He is currently 53 kgs (about 117 lbs), so he gained 3 kgs in 2 months. At his age of 19.5 months it seems to be a very good weight.

I am aiming at 55 kgs (121 lbs) to be his permanent grown up weight as he has a some room to grow a bit more.

To make sure he doesn’t gain just fat we have started a new excercise. Every time we come back from a walk outside and if he was not recently fed, he has to run up and down through 10 stairs. This is repeated until he gets tired and starts running slow.

Hill’s Science Plan™ Canine Adult Advanced Fitness™ Lamb & Rice is the food of choice that Rocco the rottweiler eats now. After trying a few chicken and fish based we settled on this dog food as best for his growth and needs. It also fits my budget just fine.

Some time a go Rocco was mainly on chicken based food by Hill’s or Eukanuba. Unfortunately chicken dog food caused him some skin problems and he started scratching too much. I tried some fish based foods by Eukanuba and Orijen, but although the skin problem was gone, the growth was not that good.

No with Hill’s Science Plan™ Canine Adult Advanced Fitness™ Lamb & Rice his skin is OK and he grows steadily. I am sure that there are other good and even better dog food products on the market but those are quite more expensive.

It’s been a while again since the last time I posted something. Rocco has been growing steadily the past months and is becoming a big people friendly donkey:)

The last time we went to the vet was for one of his regular manipulations. As every time we go to the vet I checked his weight to see how is his developement going. He is a little bit above 110 lbs (50 kgs) at the age of almost 18 months. I suppose he will grow some more and settle.

The winter is over so now I will do my best to walk him more frequently as when it was cold this was far from a priority. Rocco loves to play outside with a stick, tennis ball or anything that can be carried back in exchange for a yummy food.

I also started teaching him to respond to a dog whistle. Now he knows that if he hears it and comes to me fast he will get something to eat. The same strategy I apply to the calling command as sometimes he is not verry willing to come if there is something more interesting to do.

In the next few days I will take a few new rottweiler pictures and post them here.

I’ve neglected this blog for a few months. So this is a small recap of what happened with Rocco.
Rocco will be 10 months old next Tuesday. He has grown quite a bit in the last month. Now he is 40 kg (about 88 lbs).
He also started showing adult behavior 2 months a go which made him a little bit harder to handle. Now we have managed to calm him down and he behaves better.
I bought him a fresh apple shampoo for his first serious bath and he does smell fresh for a few days after the bath
The little dummy ate a $100 sunglasses, some cosmetics and a lot of plastic stuff. Luckily it all goes out when the p*** time comes.
On the health side he has been doing well except once when he got some stomach virus. He didn’t eat for five days and got injections twice a day. The poor thing was quite skinny at the end and couldn’t move much due to the absence of any power.
